Marilyn's Brentwood House for sale

12305 5th Helena Drive
Brentwood, CA 90049

Marilyn's legendary final home is currently up for sale.  So if you have an extra $3,595,000 it can be yours.

Here is the official listing.  It is interesting to note that they didn't even make mention of the fact it was Marilyn's home.  Too bad one of these celebrities, with money to burn, who profess to love Marilyn wouldn't purchase it and make a museum.

  1. If I had the money I would so buy it. Not just because Marilyn once lived there but because it's just a beautiful house... but I'll keep dreaming until one day I can afford a house like that. :-)

  2. You're right Melinda, the ideal situation would be for someone like Mariah Carey, who's always been passionate about Marilyn, and has often said she would donate her baby grand piano to a marilyn museum... to do just that, turn it into a museum. It's a lovely house, I love what the current owners have done with it.

  4. If you can not think of it as, "Marilyn Monroe's last home", or some other term of bring to attention that it's Marilyn Monroe's home; it is an amazingly beautiful place. That is my favorite style in houses. Even if I wasn't a MM fan, I'd love it. BUT I'd have to (obviously) be super-rich. Yikes!! Plus, there has got to be some big-time bad energy there. It would be such a sad, place to live, IMO.

  5. It is gorgeous. Wish we had that style around here but I don't think it really suites snow :)

Let's say you win the lottery and the house is for sale - do you buy it? Hmmm.... I've been back and forth on this one. I agree with what you said about the bad vibes. Not sure I could sleep in the bedroom.

On the other hand, it was nice to see her excited about this house. Her shopping trip to Mexico to purchase furniture and her fling with a cute boy toy - fun times for her. Here is some pics from the trip to mexico at the bottom of the page http://www.marilynmonroe.ca/camera/pucci/index.htm

It would be nice to at least have a fan own the home.

  6. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Mr Hefner purchased it and turned it into a museum (as you mentioned). It would be protected and preserved for all -- in the right hands!

The house looks beautiful. I could just curl up by the pool aaaaaaall day, couldn't you? hehe

  7. Oh My God!!!!! The house looks so fantastic. I only see It the way she left It! Very gloomy. It's so fresh and yes, I could live there in a heart beat. I Think they are trying to get rid of the Marilyn connection with the house. That will never happen. I would have to put myself in the owners and neighbors shoes..... Museum? ....Traffic.....Parking? Probably never going to happen would be nice though. Currant owners great job! looks like they re- stuccoed It. I wonder If the "Cursom Perficio" is still there? Just a wonderful Home. A good price for Brentwood.

  8. As a Marilyns #1 fan, I would love to buy her lovely home: it was the only one she ever bought under her own name. But there's no "bad vibes" there: Marilyn is resting is peace as she should because of the beautiful person she was in life. As for the museum idea, I like it. However having been in Brentwood it's not likely. A museum in a residential area is just not feasible.

  9. I had a wee think about your question Melinda.. if I won the lottery, would I buy Marilyn's house? Yes I think I would, but I wouldn't live there, I would transform it into a mini Marilyn museum because I know how important this house is not only to the fans, but a big part of Marilyn's history.

However, I feel the bedroom should not be opened to the public, I wouldn't feel right making any sort of profit off the general public for them to gawp at such a (looking for the right wording) sombre area. I'm aware that some of Graceland isn't open to the general public and I feel the same should be done for Marilyn.. just out of respect I guess.

But hey! this is all speculation.

  10. Lorraine, I totally agree - bedroom off limits. I also understand how it will likely never be an official museum due to the location. However, if a fan owned it at least tours could be arranged occasionally.

  11. Preservation and respect. That is key. I've been to the house and the area. It's incredible. But, I agree -- Brentwood is quiet (and it should remain as such) -- so, a touristy museum wouldn't work. I just hope the new buyers keep the Marilyn connection -- perhaps, the idea of a small working museum with limited visits through the year for special occasions, etc. That would be wonderful! Who knows. We'll see. The house looks beautiful. I can see her glow throughout it. Special places don't lose impressions ;)

  12. I have a question and it's not related to this, but I think you are more knowledgeable than me about Marilyn. I recently came across a site that talked about one of Marilyn's dresses (lame dress worn in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes") going on exhibit in a museum and I wanted to ask you if you think it is some sort of fraud. 13. Sounds like the pieces are being loaned from the Jersey collection which is authentic. Here is more info on the original collection...

  14. My husband and I visited Marilyn's grave on our last visit to California from Australia and it was a beautiful experience. It was sad but wonderful to remember a beautiful person and leave a flower at her grave from all her fans in Australia.
