This photo of Marilyn shows up on book cover after book cover. I don't know about you, but I am tired of seeing it. There are hundreds of beautiful photos of Marilyn, so why they keep using the famous gold lame photo is beyond me. Just have a look at all the ones I found in my collection. Am I missing any?

ReplyDeleteIt is a nice picture though, but personally I would rather it be a rare Norma Jeane photo then a common glamour one :)

and it has this photo on the cover.. I agree it's a stunning photo, but there is such a thing as overkill! :)
LOL don't forget the older book Marilyn Monroe: In Her Own Words (same pic, just more of a close-up of the face). It is a very over used picture I have to agree. I like those rare odd pictures, but they have to market her unfortunately...or think they do, but it is ashame since she has so many pictures!

ReplyDeleteI think it's a no age photo. You can't say in which period it was taken, I bet it could be a 2009 photo as well, maybe that's why it's so special!
Hey ljb! I found an older book I have called Marilyn in her own words by Neil Grant. I'm not sure if that is the book you are thinking of. It is a similar photo and just a close up but not the same shot.

ReplyDeleteI had no say in the matter. I asked the publisher to use a less-used photo, but alas, I'm just the writer. It is beautiful, but there are so many others that are beautiful, too.
My copy of Marilyn by Jay Harrison has that on the cover. Wish I had the version with tiger stripe dress from SYI, but given that I found it by chance in a charity shop, I'm not going to be too fussy!
