Seven Year Itch Tissue Holder

OMG!  Love this.  Found this tissue holder that features Marilyn from the Seven Year Itch on amazon.

Unfortunately, they only ship to the US so it took awhile for me to figure out a way to get it to me.  I was pleasantly surprised by the quality.  It is a sturdy plastic and the image on the front looks good.

The fun part about this is that the way the tissue comes out the top looks like it is her dress blowing in the breeze from the subway.

Introducing Mini Marilyn

You may have noticed a super cute character making the rounds on social media....fans have been sharing images of Mini Marilyn.  A website appeared at http://www.minimarilyn.com along with facebook and instragram pages.  The darling little doodle has quickly become possible.  When I shared a world cup themed mini marilyn it was quickly the most popular post I've ever had on facebook.  Obviously, whoever created her has knocked it out of the park when it comes to likeability.  

I was hoping a fan was behind the great artwork but today the news broke that it is actually a product created by ABG (the company that owns Marilyn image).  Get ready for Mini Marilyn merchandise to be everywhere.

New Marilyn Chair!

Look what I picked up!  It is a really cute chair and ottoman with Marilyn and Audrey all over it.  For those in Canada you can find it at Bad Boy Furniture Stores.  Be warned though it is alot smaller in person then how it looks in photos.  Great for small spaces.

Marilyn on cover of Newsweek Magazine

What started as an entire issue of Marilyn Monroe’s favorite photographers sharing their their favorite pictures and anecdotes about the iconic actress, turned into a never-before-seen look inside Marilyn’s mind. Through conversations with legendary photographer Lawrence Schiller, we discovered he had a "Lost Scrapbook" in his personal archives that has been locked away for nearly 60 years.

Written in her own hand (in crayon), and filled with her personal photos, The Scrapbook is a love note to a man she had an affair with (Sam Shaw) perhaps while married to Joe Dimaggio and Arthur Miller. It consists of photos of Marilyn that Sam Shaw took glued into a notebook, with hand-written notes on each page in crayon. There are very few never-before-seen Marilyn Monroe moments left in the world and that is what makes this Newsweek Special Issue so special.

“Marilyn Monroe’s Lost Scrapbook” is on sale Thursday, January 9th in Walmart and Barnes & Noble and on newsstands nationwide Tuesday January 14th.

Norma Jeane 1942 Yearbook for sale

I am looking to sell my 1942 University High yearbook featuring a young Norma Jeane.  It is in excellent shape.  What makes this copy unique is that it belonged to someone who really knew Marilyn!  This belonged to a schoolmate named Annette Cowgill.  Annette signed her name at the front in a distinctive coloured pen.  She also used this pen to cross out the photos of some boys she disliked and she placed checkmarks next to the people she knew and liked.  There is a checkmark next to Norma Jeane's name!

#MarilynMonroe Sexy Hair

Marilyn is the new face of Sexy Hair products.  You will likely find advertisments featuring her in all the current magazines.  I came across one in the October issue of Cosmo.  They feature Milton Greene images along with a quote attributed to Marilyn (some of the quotes are real and some can not be sourced as Marilyn's).  Regardless, it is a beautiful ad campaign.

I decided to give their hairspray a try and I have been using it for the past month (I found it at Shoppers Drug Mart here in Canada).  While it is expensive and probably more than what most people want to spend, I am very impressed with it.  I would recommend you give it a try.

Sexy Hair is pulling out all the stops with their promotion as well.  They chose my beautiful maid of honour, Suzie Kennedy, to launch their products in the UK.  Stunning!

Jasper Remembers Marilyn

The Jasper Museum in Alberta, Canada is hosting an exhibit featuring photographs and memories of residents who remember when Marilyn came to town to film "River of No Return" in the summer of 1953.  The exhibit runs until September 22, 2013.

For those of us unable to see it in person the gift shop is selling a booklet about the exhibit.  It features some rare candids I have never seen before.  The stories are fun to read - although I wish there was more content.  It is a small book so please keep that in mind if you are thinking of ordering it.  I think it is worth it for the cover alone.  Just fantastic.

I have some books, puzzles, framed records, posters, and rare prints that I am looking to part with.  Time to clean out my closet and let some other Marilyn fans enjoy it.  No sense in holding on to it forever in boxes :)

Niagara and Bus Stop released on Blu Ray

Niagara "the 60th Anniversary Edition" will be released on Blu Ray July 30, 2013.  It is available for pre-order at Amazon below.  While, I am excited to see this in blu ray it is disappointing that the special features are only a restoration comparison and image gallery.  Could they not do something special for an anniversary edition?

Bus Stop is also being released the same day.  Again, the only special feature is an image gallery.  Regardless, I will enjoy seeing Cherie in Blu Ray :)

Rare Marilyn Candids Up For Auction

It still amazes me that new photos of #MarilynMonroe continue to come to light.  The latest shots are coming up for auction at Profiles in History on July 28.  They were taken when Marilyn was married to Arthur Miller.

The most touching to me was the shot of Marilyn on the beach with Arthur's children.  She looks so happy.

New Heatwave Tonner Marilyn Doll

Tonner Dolls has released yet another Marilyn doll.  This one is a web exclusive and is limited to only 150 dolls.  It is based on Marilyn singing "Heatwave" from There's No Business Like Show Business.

The details of this outfit look amazing!  They really seemed to spend the time getting it right.  I am thrilled that they are continuing to release ORIGINAL Marilyn outfits that have not appeared on other dolls before.

The fun of the Tonner dolls will be the ability to pose her - especially in this outfit.  Let's hope they keep them coming!

Love Marilyn Documentary On Demand with Bell

I discovered today that the documentary Love Marilyn is available on pay per view in Canada!  I have Bell TV and found it available for $9.99.  I was so excited to finally be able to see it.  

Overall I think it was a wonderful documentary.  They used lots of rare footage which was refreshing however the real star was Marilyn's words.  I wasn't sure what I would think of other actors reading her words.  I enjoyed this when they would also show Marilyn's actual handwriting in the background.  Partly because it helped to identify what was going on.  I admit that I got confused sometimes as to whose words the actor/actress's were speaking as they also read excerpts from Mailer, Miller, Steinem, etc.

Nevertheless, I would recommend it as a high quality documentary on Marilyn that really tried to look below the surface and show her as a real person.

I've been sent this photo as an insider tip showing a new flavour of Three Olives vodka featuring Marilyn Monroe.  It states it will be a strawberry flavour.  I have not been able to verify this online anywhere so I guess we will just wait and see.  Thanks to Johnny for sending it along.

"Hot Night" by Tonner Dolls Review

I must admit that this is the outfit I have been the most excited about.  Finally, Tonner dolls have released their version of Marilyn's famous dress she wore in the film "Niagara".  This scene from Marilyn movie history has been ignored in the past by other doll companies.  Kudos to Tonner for making this a reality.  I would have loved it to be named "Get out the fire hose" :)

I have reviewed the doll itself in a previous blog post.  The best thing about the Tonner doll is the fun you can have dressing her up in different outfits.  I hope they decide to continue with their Marilyn outfits (the misfits cherry dress please!).

Again, the outfit came packaged beautifully.  It included the white shawl, jewelry and shoes.  A minature record would have been a really fun accessory as Marilyn carries her Kiss record wearing this dress.


The shoes were even trickier to put on her than the Pola versions.  The straps are shorter to work with so it took some time.  However, once you get them on it is well worth the effort.  They look fabulous.

I absolutely love the heart bracelet which is true to what Marilyn really wore.  I do have a gripe when it comes to the jewelry though.  I do not understand why the earrings are silver but the bracelet is gold.  It makes no sense and looks silly.  Marilyn clearly wore gold hoop earrings in the film so why send them as silver.  I ended up changing them out for the gold hoops from the Franklin Mint Korea outfit.

The centerpiece of course is the pink peekaboo dress that is instantly recognizable from the film.  They did a fantastic job capturing the look of this dress.  The material is sturdy and well made.  It fits her like a glove.  Any tighter and she'd have to be sewn in (which the real Marilyn did from time to time).  I think they nailed it with the colour.  Very true to the film.  Even the way it sits on her shoulders is the same.  This is my favourite outfit that they have done.  Highly recommended.

Marilyn on Cover of December Playboy

#MarilynMonroe has once again graced the cover of Playboy magazine.  She is featured in the December issue in stores now.

This is Marilyn's 7th Playboy cover (one was an impersonator).  You can see them all on my site here.

This time a photo by Andre DeDienes was used where Marilyn is holding up a towel.  It is a beautiful cover.

She is also featured inside in a 12-page story.  The photos, unfortunately, are nothing new.  Just a rehash of golden dreams, Moran, Schiller and Stern photos.
