MarilynGeek Book Ambition

I've added a new page to my website dedicated to Marilyn's books.  This time I'm not talking about books about Marilyn but instead books that Marilyn read.

I've decided to try and read as many books from Marilyn's personal library as I can.  This page will document my journey.  I call it MarilynGeek Book Ambition (litte tribute to Madonna with the title LOL).

I've included a gallery of photos of Marilyn reading for inspiration.

Marilyn and the Camera is now MarilynGeek

Well it was just a matter of time but I have now merged my newly created MarilynGeek site with MarilynMonroe.ca!

What this really means is that I have changed the name from Marilyn and the Camera to MarilynGeek.  It is mostly a cosmetic change as the content is remaining the same.

I have been using Marilyn and the Camera for over 13 years so it was time for a refresh :)  You can use either MarilynMonroe.ca or MarilynGeek.com to access the website from now on.

MarilynGeek.com has been launched!

I am excited to announce the opening of my MarilynGeek.com website and the unveiling of my new logo.  Could she be any cuter?   Ever since I started using the MarilynGeek moniker I have been wanting some artwork that would show Marilyn with her Pola look.  It took a long time to find the artist who could bring my vision to life.  Thank you Brandon!!!

At this point MarilynGeek.com is just a landing page to direct fans to my social media pages but who knows what it will become over time.  I have re-branded my social media pages with the new artwork.  Hope you all like the new look of the blog :)

Best of the My Marilyn Podcast

I want to thank everyone who has participated in and listened to my Marilyn podcasts.  The My Marilyn podcast was an internet show that ran from 2005-2010.  I had put the show on hiatus with the intent that I would go back to it someday.  Well it is time to face the fact that I have not done a show in 2 years and I really don't see that changing.

New Kim Goodwin Doll

I'm proud to display Kim Goodwin's latest Marilyn doll creation.  He has captured Marilyn as she appeared at the 1954 photoplay awards.  If you haven't visited Kim's doll section on my website you are missing out.  His dolls remain the best likeness of Marilyn ever captured.

2 Vintage Magazine Articles Added

Thanks to Angelina and Anastasia for sending in a couple of Marilyn articles from some Vintage magazine they had.  I really appreciate people helping out with this section of my website by transcribing the articles including photo captions (into word or typed into an email) and also emailing a scan of the article to melinda@marilynmonroe.ca.  This way I can also include the photos and front of the magazine.  I prefer transcribed articles because they are easier for everyone to read and people can adjust the font.

New Kim Goodwin Doll

I have added a new doll to the Kim Goodwin gallery on my site.  Thank you so much to Kim for sending along this amazing addition.  I never get tired of looking at his work and it is wonderful to see a new creation!  They are still the best custom Marilyn dolls ever made.

It is from the film Some Like it Hot when Sugar is performing the song, "I'm Through with Love".

In addition to this brand new doll, Kim also re-did a previous Sugar doll that was on the site.  So she has been updated as well with the new version.

It does mean that I am back on youtube though.  I have opened a new account and put back up some of the videos I had on there.  Some have been lost or are not good enough quality to bother putting back up.

Autographs

My new Bert Stern autograph served as inspiration for a new page on my website displaying scans of signatures I have collected over the years.

I only included people who actually knew Marilyn in real life - co-stars, photographers, etc.  I included anything I have an authentic signature on like books, photos, magazines and a silkscreen.  Of course, my favourites are the ones personalized to me :)

The people I actually met in person were Bert Stern, George Barris, Lena Peptione and George Zimbel.  The rest were obtained through the mail or purchased on Ebay (i.e Avedon poster).

Marilyn Book Section Updated

It has been awhile since I added any new books to my website.  So I spent today catching up.  You can see my book collection here.  Each book entry has a scan of the cover, details about the book, usually a review and information on where to buy it.

I have also added a couple of lists I thought might be useful.  The first is New Releases so this is where you can go to see the newest books.  I also added one for New Fans - what would you recommend to someone as a first book?  Any other suggestions?

Hope you guys find this kind of information useful.  When I was starting out my book collection there was a fan website that listed Marilyn books I found really helpful.  It was a great resource but has since gone off the grid.
