I have just received information that tonight on the Home Shopping Network they will be featuring a 1 hour live special on "Jewelry of Legends" collection inspired by Marilyn Monroe. It airs at 10pm EST/7pm PST.
This special edition, only available through HSN, features recreations of some of the most famous pieces of jewelry involved in Marilyn Monroe's career. This HSN exclusive is a special commemorative event because August 5th represents the 49th anniversary of her untimely death. For a preview or advance sale of any of these limited edition items, you can visit HSN .
The price point for the jewelry was around $50 - $80. And for that price, you are getting "crystals" (not CZ) and "silvertone" (not sterling silver).
ReplyDeleteThe markup on this stuff is tremendous. They could have used CZ and real silver and still made a profit at these prices.
You can buy crystal and silvertone costume jewelry from Target for $15. The only time Target ups the pricepoint for this quality is when the pieces have a designer name attached. Then the price goes up to the $40 range. No more than that.
In this case, there is not a "name" designer, so I guess HSN must have had to pay A LOT to license the Marilyn Monroe name.
Agree with you. They are jacking up the prices because it has Marilyn's name attached to it.
ReplyDeleteI think they should have charged more and used better materials! Silvertone and not even silver is terrible!!
